About The Illustrated Luthier : Jesse Hall


Ever since luthiery school, I've wanted to be able to build people's dream guitar.  I got the chance to design and build guitars of my own design while learning the craft, and never wanted to stop with the creative and satisfying feeling of designing and building completely customized guitars.  I've worked with many artists on a pencil - and - paper design process where I use my experience to guide them along in designing their one of a kind guitar. 

I've spent hundreds of hours designing my own guitars. I offer these designs as signature models, to be customized with any wood and hardware readily available to me.  Most luthiers stop the customization at this stage.  I like to offer completely customized, one of a kind guitars that my clients can design themselves (with my input where necessary), or will allow me to create their own custom guitar using their favorite guitars' specific attributes as guidance.  Custom guitars are a truely personalized work of art.

:BUILDING PROCESS::
     Every guitar I make starts with a full scale 3D design.  I take the time to work out every detail before buying any wood to make sure everything will work the way I want it too.  This also lets clients see what the guitar will look like more completely than a drawing and a few discussions. 
     We discuss every aspect of the guitar from wood choices, neck thickness, headstock shape, hardware, finish options, even to what kind of case they want their guitar shipped in.  Every aspect of the guitar is important and I want people to feel like they learn a lot in the design process.
